Photos that come to life: how old photos become a video where you watch someone grow up

In short

It is one video made from photos across a whole life, where each photo moves and becomes the next, so you watch someone you love grow up from baby to today. Every two neighboring photos become a five second clip, and the clips join into one video with an opening, music and a closing dedication. Clear photos of the same person, in age order, without huge age jumps between neighbors, work best.

What is a video where your photos come to life?

Take photos of one person across the years and you get a video where your photos come to life. At one they crawl across the rug. At four they run through the garden. At thirteen they stand on a stage, and at forty they hug their own kids.

Nothing swaps or fades. The photo itself moves and becomes the next one, so it feels less like an album and more like a film of their life. People looking for a video where a child grows up from photos, or a way to bring old photos to life of their grandparents usually mean exactly this.

How do two photos turn into motion?

  1. Put the photos in age order. The first is the earliest, the last is from today.
  2. Every two neighboring photos become a five second clip. The first photo moves, and the clip lands exactly on the next photo.
  3. The clips join into one video. Each clip starts where the last one ended, so there are no cuts.
  4. Then the parts that make it yours: a personal opening with their name, music, an opening title and a closing dedication.

Your photos appear in the video exactly as they are. What is added is the motion that connects them.

How many photos do you need, and what does it cost?

About 12 photos make one minute. Six minutes is about 72 photos. The full math is in how many photos you need for a video.

Packs run from one to six minutes, from USD 19.90 to 74.90, and the five minute pack is the most popular. You pay once, with no subscription. Every pack includes free retries, and you can rebuild the final video as many times as you want. Not happy? You have 30 days for a full refund, right from your account. Details on the pricing page.

How is it different from a photo slideshow?

In a slideshow every photo stands still, maybe with a slow zoom, then fades into the next. Here there is no transition between photos. The photo moves and becomes the next one, and what you see is one person who grows up over the course of the video.

Slideshows have real strengths, especially for group shots and documents. The full comparison is in slideshow vs a video where the photos move.

Which photos work best?

  • Clear, visible faces. The better you can see the face, the more natural the motion.
  • The same person in every photo, or the same couple across the years.
  • Age order. A photo in the wrong place looks like a jump back in time.
  • No huge age jumps between neighbors. Age 3 to age 6 works well. Age 3 straight to 30 is much harder.
  • Old album prints work. Scan the print or take a photo of it with your phone. See how to scan old photos with your phone.

What works less well?

Better to know up front, so you can pick the right photos:

  • Very blurry photos or tiny faces come out weaker.
  • Group photos with many faces are harder. One person or a couple works best.
  • A very large age jump between two neighbors looks less smooth. One photo in between fixes most of it.

A clip did not come out the way you wanted? Make it again. Retries are included in every pack, so a fix costs nothing extra.

What do people make these videos for?

  • Bar and bat mitzvahs. Birth to thirteen, on the big screen. See bar and bat mitzvah videos.
  • Milestone birthdays. 60 for Mom, 70 for Dad, 80 for Grandpa.
  • Anniversaries. Two people side by side, from the first date to the grandkids.

Common questions

Does the video show what they really looked like at every age?

Yes, in the photos themselves. Every photo you upload appears as it is. The motion between photos was never filmed, it is built to look natural.

Can I use black and white photos from an old album?

Yes. Scan the print or take a photo of it with your phone. The sharper the print and the larger the face in the frame, the better the result.

How many photos do I need for one minute?

About 12 photos per minute. A six minute video needs about 72 photos.

Can I make one from my baby's first year?

Yes. One photo a month gives you 12 photos, about one minute of video. The age gaps are small, so the motion comes out especially smooth.

Do I need video editing skills?

No. You upload photos, put them in order, pick music and write a dedication. There is no timeline and no software to install.

Is there a subscription?

No. You pay once by video length, and you have 30 days for a full refund from inside your account.
